Supercharger Frequently asked questions:

1. What cars will your supercharger fit?
ONLY V6 2.5L (1998+ Contours and Cougars), either transmission works fine. The early 1995-1997 2.5L Contours have a few differences than the later year Contour/Cougars which may complicate things. The hoods are shaped differently which may lead to hood clearance issues. Otherwise, the kit should install normally.

2. What if any cutting is involved in installing the supercharger?
It is important to note that this kit does require you to cut holes in the engine bay to route the intake piping.  Cutting of a 3” hole near the stock coolant tank location is necessary for the piping. The piping routes down from the first hole and around behind the bumper and then back up through a second hole near the power distribution box. A 3-3.5” hole is needed under the power distribution box on the driver’s side of the car.  Another hole 2.5” hole is needed directly under the stock coolant tank location for the oil drain tube and to allow head unit adjustment. The engine mount and engine mount top plate need to be trimmed slightly for supercharger clearance.  Finally, as in any forced induction kit you need to cut a hole in the oil pan for the oil drain line.

3. What else is required for the supercharger setup that is not included in our kit?
The only items that we do not include in our kit are larger injectors and a dyno tune. 24lb or larger injectors are needed for our supercharger kit. If you need help sourcing the correct injectors contact us and we will be glad to point you in the correct direction. The tune required must be done by a dyno shop that has the ability to tune with either SCT or Diablo software. A mail order chip will not work in place of a dyno tune. You must find a dyno shop near you.

4. What other important items about install should I know about?
It is important to note that the stock coolant tank is replaced with an aftermarket aluminum coolant tank. This is located near the throttle body. This means the stock coolant tank sensor, which measures the height of the coolant, is no longer used and the coolant light will now be on forever unless you remove the bulb in the dash. It is highly recommended that the stock battery be relocated to the trunk for this install but you should be able to get by with a smaller Dynabat battery. A stock battery will not work because the coolant tank on one side and intake piping which pushes the distribution box over on the other side. Also keep in mind that the stock windshield washer tank neck gets in the way of the supercharger head unit. We removed the tank all together so plan on removing it for this install. It may be possible to use the tank if the neck was cut down.

5. Do you sell an intercooler or blow off valve with this kit?
No, we do not because the boost levels of the kit we sell does not require it.  The Vortech head unit is not generating enough heat at or below 6-7psi so adding an intercooler would only increase pressure loss in the system and decrease horsepower.  The kit was designed so that the front piping behind the bumper can be replaced with a universal front mount intercooler in the event that someone raises the boost. If the boost is raised passed 6-7 psi an intercooler and blow off valve are required. Contact us and we can give you more information on what can be used to upgrade our kit.

6. Can you sell me upgraded pulleys to increase boost?
Yes, we can sell you different pulley’s to increase boost. An increase in boost to 11psi will require a smaller supercharger pulley (~$100) and a larger drive pulley (~$200). Both of which are available through us. A stock Vortech pulley will not work on our kits. The pulleys need to be modified for clearance issues.

7. What other supporting modifications do you recommend?
A Torsen torque biasing differential which can be obtained through Ford is recommended. The stock differential is a weak point and before any heavy clutch dumps or track racing is done this should be replaced. Headers are always a good mod and contrary to the original supercharger kit, which Vortech discontinued, any header will fit with our kit. The special MSDS headers are not needed for this kit. I’d also highly recommend a wide band sensor kit. It will allow you to monitor your air fuel ratio and it can save your motor if you ever run into issues. We use the Innovate XD kits on our cars.

8. What about the stock fuel pump or MAF?
For our kit the stock parts are perfectly fine. The stock fuel pump and MAF are good to about 300whp which our kit will not reach unless you increase the boost. If you do increase the boost a F150 Lighting MAF (80mm or 90mm) is recommended but keep in mind a tune is needed after install. The fuel pump will be a Walbro 255lph pump for the return fuel system cars (early year cars) or a SVT Focus pump for the returnless fuel system cars (later year cars). Contact us if you want more info.

9. What kind of warranty do you have?
We will warranty the brackets in the kit for 1 year. The Vortech head unit has a one year warranty directly through Vortech.
